2 Welcome O Ramadan

Alhamdulillah, Happy and thankful to my beloved creator for giving us another chance of Ramadan the blessed month to purify ourselves. The honored guest whom we are eager to welcome.

I know that this Ramadan is going to be completely different for me with 4 little ones. I would like to exert myself in terms of my own ibadaah, but I have to attend the needs of my young ones who depend on me. By the mercy of Allah we can be rewarded for our intentions even if we are unable to carry out the actions. So, I couldn't put a Ramadan plan, have to workout on how the situation is. Insha Allah, I'll try my best to spend more time in Quran.

By the grace of Allah, kids (Big Sister & Little Princess) are well prepared for Ramadan, we discussed a lot about the virtues of Ramadan, what should be done during Ramadan, which actions should be avoided and why Ramadan is given for us, also the special door of Raiyyan which is prepared for those who fast. And finally I told them, if we live the whole life like how we live in Ramadan we'll be happy when we meet Allah like the day we are happy when we see the moon of Eid.

Alhadmullah they have decorated the house to welcome Ramadan, as the Jannah is decorated for those who fast. the top picture was done by Little Princess. Insha Allah trying to make her to fast this year.

My little man (Little Soldier) is familiar with the word "Ramadan" only in word but wants to munch every time :)

Little Princess's Ramadan chain, each strip is removed each day, by the end of the month chain will be completed and she knows that Ramadan has 29 or 30 days.

Oh Allah, help us to spend this Ramadan in complete submission and worship to you, also help us to celebrate this Ramadan as our last, So we may be able to put all our efforts into pleasing you!

0 Hijri Calendar

Surely, the number of months according to Allah is twelve (as written) in the Book of Allah on the day He created the heavens and the Earth, of which there are Four Sacred Months. That is the right faith. So, do not wrong yourself therein. And fight the Mushriks all together, as they fight you all together, and be sure that Allah is with the God-fearing. [9:36]

Abu Huraira ضى لله عنه reported Allah's Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم as saying: Observe fast on sighting it and break (fast) on sighting it (the new moon), but if the sky is cloudy for you, then complete the number (of thirty).. [Muslim]

Actually to say the kids were having fun with making moon phases crafts but finally it ended up with this project (Islamic Calendar)

The Hijri calendar which is based purely on lunar cycle, was first introduced in 638CE by companion of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and the second Khalifa Umar ضى لله عنه

Umar ضى لله عنه consulted with his advisors from the companion and it was finally agreed that the most appropriate reference point for the Hijri calendar was Hijrah (the immigration of the Muslims from Mecca to Madina) the Hijri calendar therefore has much deeper religious and historical significances in the Muslims life.

It is indeed a unique occasion to ponder that the Islamic era did not start with the victories of Islamic wars nor with the birth or death of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. But it starts with sacrifice and prepares the Muslims to do the same.

Muslims are obliged to use the Islamic calendar because all of the ruling needed time tracking are related to it. Many of the marital and spousal relationship rulings of the women are directly connected to the lunar months. Also to determine the beginning of Ramadan, 2 Eids, calculation of Zakah, Haj and it's relative worship, sunnah fasting, age etc..

This is the lap book that was done by Big Sister, Alhamdulillah she enjoyed it a lot and learned many things.

0 Popsicle Stick Puzzle

Alhamdulillah, The days are passing! the kids are growing, learning and observing each and every action of ours. My wonderful son "Little Soldier" who is now very active and quite advance is bored of playing with toys, he is interested if something is new. So, I came a cross with this activity from this provocative book "Smart Play : 101 Fun, Easy Games That Enhance Intelligence" by Barbara Sher.

"The lesson learned through our bodies stick with us. We don't read a manual to learn how to ride a bike. We learn through our bodies, and once our bodies learn something we never forget it. Children who make their bodies as part of the learning process are stimulated and alert"

May Allah accept our efforts and guide us and our children on the straight path!

3 Tajweed Resources

Or make it a little more and recite the Qur’an clearly with tartil (in a distinct and measured tone). [73:4]

Ya'laa bin Mamlak رضى الله عنه says:"He asked Ummul Mu'mineen Sayyiditina Ummi Salamah رضى لله عنها about the recital of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. She replied: "He recited every word separately and clearly". [Thirmidi]

Alhamdulillah all praise due to Allah for guiding and granting us the opportunity to learn and teach.

The Holy Quran, it the word of the mighty and it's every syllable is from him, it's recitation must be taken very seriously. The rights and dues of Quran are many, by learning Tajweed, Insha Allah we can perfect ourselves from making mistakes in the recitation of the Quran, as it is fard-ain (individual obligation) to recite the Quran with tajweed.

Muhammed Al-Jazari رحمه الله the great scholar of Quran and Hadeeth of 9th century says in his famous poem detailing the rules of tajweed:

"And applying tajweed is an issue of absolute necessity, who ever does not apply tajweed to the Quran then he is a sinner."

The proofs that scholars bring to show the obligation of the tajweed is that Allah says the ayah mentioned above. And of the rights of reciting correctly is reciting it in the way it was revealed, there are various ahadeeth showing us the importance of the tajweed.

Saeed bin Mansoor relates in his sunan that a man was reciting the Quran to Abdullah bin Masood رضى الله عنه and he recited. Innamas sadaqathu lil fuqarai wal masaqeen, then, He said this was not how the messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم recited to me! So the man asked how did he read it to you Oh Abu Abdur Rahman? He said Innamas sadaqathu lil fuqaraaai wal masaqeen. He elongated the word fuqara and the knowledge of the different lengths of elongation (mudd) is also from the rules of tajweed.

The scholars have divided the types of mistakes one might fall into when reciting the Quran into 2 types:

1. Clear mistakes
2. Obvious mistakes (hidden mistakes)

The clear mistakes must be avoided by all, And to avoid then one must know the rules of tajweed. If a person falls into the clear mistake this is considered as a sin.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم used to recite the Quran in slow, measured, rhythmic tones as Allah has instructed him, not hurriedly but rather he would recite a surah in such slow rhythmic tones that it would be longer than it would seem possible.

The lack of confidence comes partly from not knowing the rules of tajweed correctly, so let us work hard to learn the rules of tajweed and try our best to recite the Holy Quran as it should be recited to please the Creator.

Alhamdulillah, we have used the following resources that helped us a lot.

1. Reach the Goal via Tajweed Rules by Maha Rasheed: Masha Allah a wonderful book that explains the rules of tajweed in an easy and simple way that can be understood well.

2. Murshidul Qaari (A Guide for the Reciter) by Sheikh Muhammed Saleem bin Ismail Ghaibi: Another marvelous book which explains the terms that really makes easy for a learner when he is learning the rules of tajweed.

3. Thufatul Atfaal by Sheikh Sulaiman Jamzuri - Detailed English Translation by Sheikh Muhammed Saleem bin Ismail Ghaibi: Here comes my next favorite and impressive book, I m astonished how well the poem is formed. The rules are presented in an interesting way, I really love it so much. May Allah accept the authors!

4. Tajweed in English website videos, Masha Allah this Qaari explains very clearly the rules and the mistakes we are unaware of.

5. Tajweed untangled by learning roots: Recently came to know about this book but we couldn't get it down.

May Allah guide us and make us among those who ponder over the verses of Quran!

0 Selected Morning and Evening Duas

الحمد لله وحده والصلاة والسلام على من لا نبى بعده

All praise is due to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon him after whom there is no other Prophet.
And pronounce the name of Allah morning and evening. [76:25]

Islam is a true religion which shows the mankind the way to achieve success happiness and goodness in both the worlds. The master both the worlds Muhammed صلى الله عليه وسلم was so concerned of his ummah that he not only told seek protection from harm, he himself taught the ummah supplication for each and every action at the beginning and the end.

In this way the supplication said in the morning and evening is a powerful weapon against all harms. The example of making mention of Allah often is like a man being pursued at speed by the enemy until he reaches a protected fortress and so protects himself inside it. Likewise is the servant, he can only protect himself from shaitan through remembrance of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.

Alhamdulillah this small dua card designed by Abi with some selected supplication for kids, as it will be interest for them when it come with colors and decorations. The wise parents are those who teach their kids to remember Allah often which make one attain nearness to the Almighty.
