0 Supermoon 1435 (2014)

And He has subjected for you the night and day and the sun and moon, and the stars are subjected by His command. Indeed in that are signs for a people who reason. [16:12]

A supermoon happens once or twice a year when the full moon is closer to Earth than during other full moons. We had some fun taking picture of the super moon. Subhanallah! How perfect are the creations of Allah.

August 10 full moon was a so-called super moon. It is when the moon being at perigee. You can see a comparison of apogee and perigee of moons below.
Now, let us enjoy some great pictures of the super moon taken by our astrophotographer hubby; LOL…. Photography is one of hubby’s hobby that he enjoys a lot.

I was amazed at the beauty of it when I looked through the binoculars. For me the moon symbolize the very beauty of women, as its charm highlights the sky. Similarly women charm highlights her groom’s desired life with her delightful spark and enthusiasm.

1 Volcano Project

It was a humdrum Sunday morning and kids wanted to do something interesting…. I was wondering what to do and finally came up with this idea of volcano eruption experiment from Aunty Janice’s impressive Book of Super Science Models.

Here is what we used for the activity. Did a volcano model with sand with a bottle in the middle and then Mixed up some red paint with vinegar as we didn’t have red dye and a little bit of dish washing liquid and poured it into the bottle inside the volcano and finally added some baking soda and this is what happened… The volcano eruption and the lava flow.

It was very exciting and interesting for kids as they could see the reaction within few minutes, YEH the boring Sunday is now interesting.

We ended up with the backboard display activity of volcano done by Big Sister. She wrote down the Quranic verse on the title strip, Subhanallah the Quran speaks about every miracles and aspects of present, past and future in detail.

What a great pleasure to spend time with different ages of kids talking, listening and discussing together and getting to know their innocent feelings and great ideas.

May Almighty be pleased with all what we do !

2 Soil Activities

And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. (15:28)

Surely, the case of Isa (Jesus), in the sight of Allah, is like the case of ‘Adam “He created him from dust, then He said to him, “Be”, and he came to be. (3:59)

From the earth We created you, and into it We will return you, and from it We will extract you another time. (20:55)

Abû Mûsâ al-Ash`arî رضي الله عنه relates that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Allah created Adam from a handful taken from all over the Earth. Therefore, the descendants of Adam came forth corresponding to the Earth. Some are red, some are white, and some are black, and some are intermediate between those. Some are easygoing, some are difficult, some are bad, and some are good.”   (Abû Dâwûd)

Alhamdulillah, Eventually we were able to make a flap book about soil. Anyway science is one of our Big Sisters favorite subject.

Subhanallah as homeschoolers we parents have a good opportunity of discussing the verses of Allah and the words of the final messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم when we are involved in this immense responsibility of educating our children.

It is very fascinating to do such activities with kids only matter is the shortage of time.

Filled a jar with soil and after 30min humus was formed

"All About Dirt" is a wonderful document links to many online resources. (download link, file size 1.54mb)

0 Balancing Acrobats (Science Activity)

Did We not make the earth a container that collects, the living and the dead?
(Al-Mursalat:25)

We did an activity from "50 Science Things to Make and Do". It was very interesting to teach them an activity along with a Holy Qur'anic ayah. To make them ponder over the verses of the Holy Qur'an.

One of our approach to teach science from Holy Qur'an to make them faraway from secular (not concerned with or devoted to religion) in other words to cultivate non-secular to the pure heart of the innocent child.

Narrated Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه : The Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “No one is born except they are upon Al-Fitrāh (instinct). His parents turn him into a Jew or Christian or Magian, just as animals produce their young with perfect limbs. Do you see anything defective?” Then Abu Hurairah, recite the verse if you wish, “this (faith) being the nature designed by Allah on which He has created the mankind. There is no change in Allah’s creation” (Ar-Rūm:30) [Sahih Muslim]

May Allah guide all of us on the straight path!

The word Kifatan [from the above Verse] is derived from the verb Ka-fa-ta – Yak-fi-tu – meaning to attract it and grab it and bind it. So, one of the attributes of the Earth is that it attracts, grabs and binds. These Verses clearly point to the gravity. Thus, everything is attracted to it, and the true weight of objects is their force of attraction toward the Earth.
